Long-term curative effect analysis on three dimensional conformal radiotherapy for 50 senile patients with esophageal cancer
Objective To investigate the long-term curative effect of the three dimensional conformal radiotherapy for senile patients with esophageal cancer. Methods The clinical data of 50 elderly patients with esophageal cancer from January 2007 to January 2009 in our hospital who got three dimensional conformal radiotherapy were retrospectively analyzed, and also, compared them with another 50 elderly patients with esophageal cancer who got conventional fraction radiotherapy at the same time, analyzed its local control rate, survival rate and toxic and side reaction. Results Local control rate and survival rate from three dimensional conformal radiotherapy group at the 1st , 3rd and 5th years were significantly higher than those of conventional fraction radiotherapy group(P <0.05). The incidence of toxic and adverse reactions from both groups in treatment were similar. Conclusions The three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy technique can safely and effectively treat the esophageal cancer in elderly patients, the long-term curative effect can be effectively improved and the patient survival can be prolonged.
