The single center clinical experiences of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery for treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
Objective To evaluate the surgical approach and effectiveness of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(LRYGB) surgery for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method To analyze 20 patients' data with laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery for treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus from August 2010 to February 2012. Result The blood glucose of 20 patients were reduced significantly.Glucose tolerance enhanced(P<0.05). The body mass of 12 patients were changed significantly. 15 patients were visited from 3 month to 12 month, the blood glucose in normal range without taking up insulin or medications. The cases of 4 patients were visited for 6 months, HOMA-IR, HbAlc compared with preoperative significantly reduced(P<0.05); Diabetes-related complications have varying degrees of relief. Conclusion LRYGB surgery is feasible for treatment of type 2 diabetes with good short-term result, but the long-term outcome awaits further observation.
