Value of combined test of serum calcium and CRP in the monitoring of severity of acute pancreatitis
Objective To investigate the changes of the levels of C-reactive protein(CRP) and serum calcium in patients with acute pancreatitis(AP) and the value of their changes in the monitoring of disease severity of AP. Methods 52 patients with AP were divided into two groups: severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) group(28 cases) and mild acute pancreatitis(MAP) group(24 cases) based on the patient's condition, and 50 healthy subjects were selected as the control group. The changes of levels of CRP and serum calcium were compared between these groups. Results At admission the CRP levels in patient with AP significantly higher than that in MAP group(P <0.05). The serum calcium levels in patients with AP were significantly lower than that in the control group, and serum calcium levels in SAP group was significantly lower than that in the MAP group(P<0.05). The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of CRP for the monitoring of SAP were 85.6%, 82.3%, and 95.4, respectively ,the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of serum calcium for SAP were 82.5%, 83.4%, 92.6%, bespectively the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of combined test were 89.2%, 85.3%, and 98.6% respectively. Conclusion CRP and serum calcium can be used as a monitoring indicator of disease severity of AP, and detection sensitivity, specificity, accuracy the combination is higher.
