Use of single-walled carbon nanotubes to mediate transient genetic transformation in plants
To verify the effectiveness of a plant genetic transformation method mediated by single-walled car-bon nanotubes(SWNT),binding ratio and protection of PEI-SWNT(polyethyleneimine single-walled carbon nano-tube complexes)to exogenous genes were investigated and veritied.Carboxylated single-walled carbon nanotubes(COOH-SWNT)were used as raw material to construct PEI-SWNT modified with polyethyleneimine(PEI).Then PEI-SWNT complex was used to transform fluorescent plasmids(eg.RED and UBQ10-EGFP)into oilseed rape protoplasts and tobacco leaves. Results showed that PEI-SWNT nanomaterials successfully bind to the exogenous target genes and protect them from nuclease degradation.PEI-SWNT was found to carry the target genes into recipi-ent cells and could successfully express them in recipient cells.
