Electrodeposition of copper in 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone-AlCl3-Cu2O ionic liquid
In order to find a new method for electrodeposition of metallic copper,1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolinone(DMI)-AlCl3-Cu2O solvated ionic liquid with molar ratio of 90:10:4 was chosen for the potentiostatic electrodeposition of copper in the paper, and the ionic structure, conductivity, viscosity and density of the electrolyte were analyzed.Raman spectroscopy and NMR analysis results show the presence of[AlCl2(DMI)4]+,AlCl3(DMI)2,and[AlCl4]-species in the DMI-AlCl3-Cu2O system. The conductivity, viscosity and density of the DMI-AlCl3-Cu2O system vary with temperature by a linear law at 323-373 K.The cyclic voltammetry study results show that-0.4 V is the starting reduction potential of copper, and the reduction peak appears at-1.35 V.Copper metal can be obtained by potentiostatic electrodeposition at potentials ranging from-1.1 V to-1.4 V,with diameters of about 20-40 μm.The coatings obtained at-1.1 V and-1.4 V have a flat surface, and copper particles with nano-needle-like structures can be obtained at-1.2 V and-1.3 V.
