In this study,a water-based ink formulation was proposed to solve the problem concerning the poor adhesion of water-based ink on paper. The effect of glass transition temperature(Tg)of the latex binder as well as additives(wetting agent and wax emulsion)on the adhesion of high-gloss paper were investigated. The results showed that the latex binder with Tg in the range from-18 oC to-10 oC can effectively improve the adhesion of high-gloss paper. In addition, the incorporation of the non-film-forming resin not only enhanced adhesion on high-gloss paper but also improved the ink blocking resistance. The amount of non-film-forming resin added to the latex with Tg of-8℃as binder was 38 wt%,the amount of wax emulsion GA1842 was 3 wt%,wetting agent superwet-360 was 1wt%,and the adhesion of the corresponding ink reached 93.8%on the high-gloss paper,80%on the matte silver tipping paper, and 100%on other types of cigarette paper. The water-based ink prepared in this study has a good practical application value.
