In September 2023,a subcutaneous abscess with unknown cause occurred in a rabbit farm in Fujian Province. The abscess occurred under the neck or back of the rabbit. The diameter of the abscess was about the size of the pigeon egg to the egg.To determine the causative agent of the subcutaneous abscess in the rabbits, the pus from the lesion site of the rabbits was collected, and a Gram-negative bacterium with translucent gray-white colony named PX01 was recovered from the pus.By using BLAST analyses, the 16S rRNA gene sequence of PX01 showed the highest identity(ranged from 99.8~100%)with that of Pasteurella multocida.Based on the features of colonial morphology,Gram-staining and the sequence of 16S rRNA,the PX01 was identified as the Pasteurella multocida.Furthermore, the PX01 was resistant to or intermediately susceptible to 7 out of 12 tested drugs,sug-gesting that the prevention and control of the PX01 should base on the results of drug sensitivity tests.
