Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of gabapentin combined with mecobalamin on restless leg syndrome secondary to cerebral infarction. Methods A total of 62 patients with cerebral infarction complicated with restless leg syndrome treated in our hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were included in this study. They were divided into a control group(n=30,treated with mecobalamin)and an observation group(n=32,treated with gabapentin combined with mecobalamin)based on their treatment modalities.Restless leg symptoms, anxiety, depression, sleep quality and hemoglobin levels were determined before and after treatment in both groups.Hemoglobin levels were analyzed for their association with restless leg symptoms. Results Before treatment, the symptoms of restless legs,Hamilton Anxiety Inventory(HAMA),Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores were similar between the two groups, and the difference was not statistically significant(all P>0.05).After treatment, the observation group and the control group had restless leg symptom scores[(8.35±2.91)vs(18.83±3.74),HAMA score[(8.91±2.10)vs(16.23±2.78),HAMD score[(7.47±2.92)vs(17.76±2.34),and PSQI[(6.35±1.36)vs(13.83±1.64),respectively]and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Hemoglobin levels in 53 patients(85%)were normal.Hemoglobin levels were lower than normal in 9 patients(15%).Conclusion Gabapentin combined with mecobalamin can have a significant therapeutic effect on restless leg syndromes secondary to cerebral infarction and is worthy of further study of large sample in clinical practice.
