Comparison between CalliSpheres drug loaded microsphere arterial chemoembolization and traditional arterial chemoembolization in therapeutic effect on unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
Objective To conduct a comparison of the efficacy and safety of DEB-TACE utilizing CalliSpheres drug-loaded microspheres versus conventional transarterial C-TACE in the treatment of unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Methods A total of 41 patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma treated in Lishui People's Hospital from May 2020 to May 2023 were divided into the DEB-TACE group(received DEB-TACE,n=21)and the C-TACE group(received C-TACE,n=20)using a random number table method.Four to six weeks after treatment, the efficacy was evaluated based on the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors(RECIST),the adverse events were compared between the two groups postoperatively and patient survival was followed up.Results There was no statistically significant difference in the overall tumor objective response rate between the two groups(66.67%vs 50.00%,χ2=1.172,P=0.279).However,the disease control rate was remarkably higher in the DEB-TACE group than in the C-TACE group(85.71%vs 55.00%,χ2=4.668,P=0.031).The overall survival was(9.13±3.14)months in the DEB-TACE group, which was higher than that of(6.06±2.37)months in the C-TACE group, showing statistically significant difference(t=3.520,P=0.001).No serious adverse events occurred in either group postoperatively, and there were no differences in adverse reactions such as abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, renal dysfunction and inguinal hematoma between the two groups(χ2=2.783,P=0.095).Conclusion The utilization of CalliSpheres drug-loaded microspheres in DEB-TACE represents a safe and effective treatment modality for unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, demonstrating superior efficacy when compared with C-TACE.
