Efficacy of quetiapine fumarate combined with repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation in treatment of male alcohol dependence
Objective To investigate the efficacy of quetiapine fumarate combined with repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation in treatment of male alcohol dependence. Methods A total of 118 male alcohol-dependent patients admitted to Mental Health Centre of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from March 2021 to September 2022 were divided into the observation group(n=59)and the control group(n=59)by random number table method. The patients in the control group were treated with quetiapine fumarate tablets while those in the observation group with quetiapine fumarate tablets combined with repeated TMS.The changes in Pennsylvania Alcohol Craving Scale(PACS)and Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire(MAST),the changes in Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)scores, the occurrence of adverse reactions, and the recurrence rate of the disease at the 6th and 12th month after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results In the observation group,PACS score was(9.16±1.02)points,MAST score was(8.78±1.00)points,SAS score was(33.27±4.99)points and SDS score was(31.26±5.82)points after treatment, which were lower than those of the control group((12.24±2.00)points,(13.00±1.37)points,(44.34±5.17)points and(40.76±7.72)points,t=10.538,19.111,11.834,7.548,all P<0.05).The adverse reaction rate of the observation group(3.39%)was similar to that of the control group(1.69%),and the recurrence rate of the observation group(0%)was also similar to that of the control group(3.39%)at the 6th month after treatment, showing no statistical significance(χ2=0.342,2.035,both P>0.05).The recurrence rate of the observation group was 3.39%after 12 months of treatment, which was significantly lower than that of 13.56%in the control group(χ2=3.933,P<0.05).Conclusion Quetiapine fumarate combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has a significant effect in the treatment of male alcohol dependence because it can reduce the alcohol dependence of patients and improve negative mood.Meanwhile, this regimen is safe and reliable.
