Children with refractory epilepsy often experience varying degrees of cognitive dysfunction, and some may require epileptic surgery.Follow-up studies on the changes in cognitive function after surgery in children with refractory epilepsy are beneficial for assisting preoperative clinical decisions.Multiple research findings indicate that,in the majority of cases, the overall cognitive function in children tends to either remain stable or improve after surgery,as compared to preoperative levels.Factors such as preoperative IQ/DQ levels, the quantity of antiepileptic drugs used, and the severity of epileptic seizures are associated with the prognosis of cognitive function postoperatively. This article reviews the research progress on postoperative cognitive function in children with refractory epilepsy.
