The morbidity and mortality of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)are high,which cause a heavy socio-economic burden.Many studies both domestically and internationally have shown that periodontitis is an independent risk factor for COPD.Periodontal therapy in COPD patients with periodontitis may decrease the frequency of COPD exacerbation.This article summarizes the influence of periodontitis on COPD and the possible mechanisms of how periodontitis affects COPD,as well as the precautions for oral diagnosis and treatment of COPD patients,in order to provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of COPD.
