Drug Compatibility of PVC Infusion Sets Plasticized with TOTM
A HPLC-MS/MS method was established for the determination of the migration amount of trioctyl phthalate(TOTM)in PVC infusion sets, and the HPLC method was adopted to investigate the compatibility of PVC infusion sets with five types of injections, namely nitroglycerin, amiodarone hydrochloride, phentolamine mesylate, metronidazole, and inosine. The results showed that under the conditions used in clinic, the total migration amount of TOTM from three batches of PVC infusion sets was far below the permitted daily exposure(PDE)for adults. And the PVC infusion sets exhibited significant adsorption effects on nitroglycerin and amiodarone hydrochloride, whereas their adsorption effects on phentolamine mesilate, metronidazole and inosine were not observed. This method has high sensitivity, simple operation, and good accuracy, which is suitable for studying the compatibility of PVC infusion sets and drugs.
