Clinical effect of limbal stem cell transplantation combined with pterygium excision on patients with pterygium
Objective To explore the effect of the combination of limbal stem cell transplantation and pterygium excision in the clinical treatment of pterygium diseases. Methods A study was conducted on 98 patients with pterygium admitted to the Ophthalmology Department of the Seventh People's Hospital of Changzhou from March 1,2016 to September 30,2019.They were divided into two groups according to the random number table method. The control group(49 cases)was treated solely with pterygium excision. The observation group(49 cases)was additionally treated with limbal stem cell transplantation based on the treatment in the control group; The treatment effects were compared, the time spent on treatment for each group of patients was recorded, and the differences between the groups were compared. The postoperative complications of the two groups of patients were observed and the total incidence rate was statistically compared. Results The total effective rate of patients with pterygium in the observation group after combined surgical treatment was significantly higher than that in the control group, and the disease recurrence rate was lower than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The total time of wound healing and hospitalization in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The total probability of postoperative complications such as wound edema in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical treatment of pterygium can be conducted through the combination of limbal stem cell transplantation and pterygium excision, which is more effective compared with simple excision, with a lower recurrence rate and fewer complications for postoperative patients. Therefore,it is worth promoting and applying.
