The effect of AC/A on myopia in adolescents and the evaluation of orthokeratology
Objective To explore the effect of the ratio of Accommodation Convergence/Accommodation(AC/A)on adolescent myopia and to evaluate the effectiveness of orthokeratology.Methods A total of 126 adolescents who underwent optometry and spectacle assemblage at Hubei Bright Eye Hospital from March 2021 to March 2022 were selected as the study subjects.Based on their myopia status,the subjects were divided into three groups:the emmetropia group(n=43),the early-onset myopia group(n=41),and the late-onset myopia group(n=42).A total of 83 myopic adolescents in the early-onset and late-onset groups were regrouped,39 of them into the orthokeratology group and 44 into the frame glasses group.The differences in AC/A values among subjects in the emmetropia group,early-onset myopia group,and late-onset myopia group were observed and compared,and the changes in AC/A values at different time points before wearing glasses and after 1,3,6 and 12 months of wearing glasses in the orthokeratology lens group and frame glasses group were analyzed.Results The AC/A values of the early-onset myopia group were higher than those of the emmetropia group,while the AC/A values of the late-onset myopia group were lower than those of the emmetropia group,with statistically significant differences(P＜0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in general information such as gender,age,type of myopia,and refractive index between the orthokeratology lens group and the frame glasses group(P＞0.05).Before wearing glasses,there were no statistically significant differences in AC/A values between the orthokeratology lens group and the frame glasses group(P＞0.05).After 1,3,6 and 12 months of wearing glasses,the AC/A values of the orthokeratology lens group were lower than those of the frame glasses group,with statistically significant differences(P＜0.05).Conclusion The AC/A value plays an important guiding role in the prevention and correction of myopia in adolescents,and orthokeratology has a significant accommodation effect on the AC/A values.
