Research progress on the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease using traditional Chinese medicine based on the theory of the"microorganism-gut microbiota-brain axis"
Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a common chronic neurodegenerative disease that poses a serious threat to health. Its main clinical manifestations include progressive cognitive impairment and behavioral impairment, which are irreversible and fatal. It often occurs in the elderly and has a long course, and it cannot be completely cured, posing a serious threat to human health and development. The pathogenesis of this disease has not been fully elucidated. In recent years, many studies have shown that the role of the"microorganism-gut microbiota-brain axis"in the central nervous system has attracted widespread attention.The"microorganism-gut microbiota-brain axis"forms a bidirectional conduction pathway between the central nervous system and the enteric nervous system, connecting the brain and gut microbiota.Dysfunction of gut flora can alter normal brain function through the"gut microbiota-brain axis",which is closely related to the occurrence and development of AD.This paper systematically elaborates on the research progress of traditional Chinese medicine in regulating gut flora in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease based on the"gut microbiota-brain axis"theory, providing a new perspective for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease with traditional Chinese medicine.
