Exploring the pathogenesis of endometriosis from the correlation between"blood stasis"and ferroptosis
Endometriosis(EMs)is a common gynecological disease, mainly manifested as dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, etc.,which seriously affects women's physical and mental health. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the etiology and pathogenesis of EMs are mainly blood stasis.Ferroptosis is a new mode of cell death discovered in recent years, characterized by the accumulation of ferric ions, mitochondrial oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and the opening of mitochondrial membrane permeability transition pores. In recent years, studies have found abnormal expressions of hepcidin, ferritin, and lipid peroxidation in the serum of EMs patients, indicating the occurrence of ferroptosis in EMs patients. This article reviews the correlation between blood stasis and ferroptosis in EMs patients and their roles in the pathogenesis of EMs,in order to provide new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of EMs.
