Protective effect and mechanism of acupuncture combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe on cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats based on 5-HT-BDNF axis study
Objective To explore the protective activity and mechanism of acupuncture combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe on brain function of stroke rats. Methods The middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)model was established in rats, and the brain function was evaluated before and after acupuncture combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe.Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect the expression levels of monoamine neurotransmitters 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT),dopamine(DA),and norepinephrine(NE)in the brain tissues of rats in each group.Western blotting was used to detect the expression level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)protein in the brain tissue of rats in each group. Results Compared with acupuncture or Chaihu Shugan Recipe alone, acupuncture combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe had a better protective effect on brain function injury in rat stroke model.Acupuncture combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe can up-regulate the expression of 5-HT,DA and NE in brain tissue of rats.Acupuncture and moxibustion combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe can up-regulate the expression of BDNF protein in brain tissue of rats. Conclusion Acupuncture combined with Chaihu Shugan Recipe has a better protective effect on cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats, which may be related to the interaction of monoamine neurotransmitters and the up regulation of BDNF protein expression.
