Research progress in the prevention and treatment of atrial fibrillation using traditional Chinese medicine based on the regulatory effect of the vagus nerve
Atrial fibrillation(AF)is one of the common arrhythmias in clinical practice, and its pathogenesis is not yet clear. In recent years, the mechanism of the autonomic nervous system as an important factor in triggering and maintaining atrial fibrillation has received extensive attention in the community.Clinical practice has shown that long-term drug intervention, radiofrequency ablation, and invasive surgical procedures have brought side effects that are difficult to ignore. Therefore, exploring new non-drug and non-ablation treatment methods for atrial fibrillation with respect to the autonomic nervous system is a cutting-edge hot topic in the academic community.Research has shown that traditional Chinese medicine plays a crucial role in the treatment of atrial fibrillation by intervening in autonomic nervous function through low-intensity vagus nerve stimulation. However, there is still a lack of personalized low-intensity vagus nerve stimulation treatment protocols in clinical practice. Therefore, further exploration and research are needed for low-intensity vagus nerve stimulation protocols. This article reviews the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and atrial fibrillation, clinical evidence of autonomic nervous system in the treatment for atrial fibrillation, and the intervention of traditional Chinese medicine in atrial fibrillation through the autonomic nervous system.
