Clinical effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction combined with electroacupuncture on postoperative recovery of patients with incomplete spinal cord injury
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Buyang Huanwu Decoction combined with electroacupuncture therapy in postoperative recovery of patients with incomplete spinal cord injury. Methods A total of 44 patients with incomplete spinal cord injury meeting the requirements who were treated in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University from December 2020 to April 2023 were included and divided into a control group and a test group according to the patient's treatment intention, with 22 patients in each group. Both groups received basic western medicine treatment, while the test group additionally received Buyang Huanwu Decoction and electroacupuncture therapy. The American Spinal Injury Association score(ASIA),modified Barthel index score(MBI),visual analogue score(VAS),electromyography F-wave extraction rate, and dispersion were compared between the two groups, and evaluated once every 3 days and 8 weeks after surgery. Results Three days after surgery, the ASIA score,MBI score,VAS score,F-wave dispersion, and extraction rate were compared between the two groups, without statistically significant differences(P>0.05).At 8 weeks after surgery, the above indicators in both groups improved compared to those at 3 days after surgery, while the improvement degree in the test group was better than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion Buyang Huanwu Decoction combined with electroacupuncture therapy can promote the recovery of spinal cord nerve function, improve motor and sensory function, alleviate pathological pain, and improve the quality of daily life. Therefore,it is a multimodal combination therapy that can be promoted and applied in clinical practice.
