Clinical observation on the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with syndrome of wind-cold attacking collaterals by thumb-tack needle combined with thunder-fire moxibustion
Objective To explore the clinical effect of thumb-tack needle combined with thunder-fire moxibustion on peripheral facial paralysis with syndrome of wind-cold attacking collaterals. Methods A total of 100 patients with peripheral facial paralysis with syndrome of wind-cold attacking collaterals from January 2021 to June 2023 who were admitted to the Third Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine were divided into the experimental group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. The control group was treated with thunder-fire moxibustion once a day for 7 days as a course of treatment, while the experimental group was treated with thumb-tack needle once a day for 7 days as a course of treatment on this basis. Both groups were treated for 3 courses. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared, and the facial paralysis grading, facial paralysis-related quality of life score, traditional Chinese medicine symptom score and facial electromyography were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of the experimental group was higher, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The House-Brackmann(H-B)facial nerve function score, facial disability index(FDI)scale score, and traditional Chinese medicine symptom score of the test group were lower than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The amplitude of compound muscle action potential of facial nerve in the experimental group was higher, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The latency of blink reflex R1 wave in the experimental group was lower, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion Thumb-tack needle combined with thunder-fire moxibustion can increase the clinical efficacy, improve facial disability and raise the quality of life.
