Study on the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of six "sliver flower" medical herbs in Lonicera Linn.in mice
Objective To compare the differences in anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of six different extracts of"sliver flower"medical herbs in mice, and to provide a scientific basis for evaluating their pharmacological effects. Methods An acute inflammatory model of xylene-induced ear swelling in mice and an analgesic model of glacial acetic acid-induced writhing in mice were used to compare the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of Lonicera similis with those of the alcoholic extracts of five genera of"sliver flower"medical herbs contained in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. Results The alcoholic extracts of all six herbs were effective in reducing the swelling of mouse ears and inhibiting mouse writhing(P<0.05).In the administration group, the anti-inflammatory effects of Lonicera similis Hemsl.,Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz.,and Lonicera hypoglauca Miq.were statistically different from the anti-inflammatory effects of Lonicera confuse(Sweet)DC.,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Lonicera similis Hemsl.,Lonicera japonica Thunb.,and Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz.prolonged the latency period of writhing, and the frequency of writhing in mice treated with Lonicera japonica Thunb.,and Lonicera similis Hemsl.was significantly reduced compared with that in the other groups, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion Six medical herbs have anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in vivo.Lonicera similis Hemsl.,Lonicera macranthoides Hand.-Mazz.,and Lonicera hypoglauca Miq.have better anti-inflammatory effects, while Lonicera japonica Thunb.,and Lonicera similis Hemsl.have better analgesic effects.
