Advances in clinical research on traditional Chinese medicine for chronic kidney disease based on the theory of "gut-kidney axis"
With the prevalence of chronic kidney disease increasing year by year in China, targeting the impact of the onset of chronic kidney disease and its prognostic factors is currently the focus of research in this field.Gut-derived uremic toxins play an important role in the progression of chronic kidney disease to end-stage renal disease. With the introduction of the"gut-kidney axis"theory, the relationship between intestinal flora and chronic kidney disease has become a research hotspot. It is now known that the accumulation of gut-derived uremic toxins activates the body's immune response, which in turn induces systemic microinflammatory reactions and ultimately exacerbates mild renal symptoms. This lays a theoretical foundation for the study of the"gut-kidney axis".Traditional Chinese physicians have found that Chinese medicine has the advantages of multi-targets and multi-pathways in treating chronic kidney disease.Clinically,it can slow down the kidney failure by strengthening the body resistance to eliminate pathogenic factors, reinforcing insufficiency and reducing excessiveness, and other methods. Therefore, the relationship between the spleen and kidney is emphasized, and importance is attached to treating the kidney from the spleen,as demonstrated by the reduction of gut-derived uremic toxins by regulating the intestinal microecology to slow down the progression of chronic kidney disease. This paper reviews the theory of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of chronic kidney disease and clinical application of the"gut-kidney axis"theory, which can provide new ideas for the treatment of chronic kidney disease with traditional Chinese medicine.
