Research on the therapeutic efficacy of modified Dachaihu decoction on gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with colorectal cancer after surgery and its impact on levels of serum somatostatin and vasoactive intestinal peptide
Objective To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of modified Dachaihu decoction on gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with colorectal cancer after surgery and its impact on serum levels of vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP)and somatostatin(SS).Methods A total of 80 patients who developed gastrointestinal dysfunction after colorectal cancer surgery admitted to and treated in the Second Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine from October 2021 to October 2022 were selected as the research object, and they were divided into the control group(n=40,treated with conventional symptomatic therapy)and the observation group(n=40,treated with conventional symptomatic therapy combined with modified Dachaihu decoction)by random number table method. The recovery situation of gastrointestinal function, serum indices, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results The recovery time of the first exhaust, defecation and bowel sounds in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Compared with those before treatment,5 days after therapy, the levels of VIP and SS in both groups decreased to a certain extent, and the levels of motilin(MTL)all increased to a certain extent, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).5 days after treatment, the levels of VIP and SS in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the level of MTL was higher than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Compared with those before treatment,5 days after treatment, the scores of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes in both groups decreased, and the scores of Karnofsky performance status(KPS)all increased, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).5 days after treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the KPS score was higher than that of the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion The modified Dachaihu decoction is obviously effective in the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction after colorectal cancer surgery, which can effectively alleviate the symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine, promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function and improve the quality of life of patients.
