Analysis of the research status on gender differences in patients with irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a common clinical functional gastrointestinal disease, and its mechanism is still unclear. It usually manifests as recurrent abdominal pain, bloating or abdominal discomfort, accompanied by changes in defecation habits. With the improvement of patients'awareness of seeking medical treatment and the deepening of clinical research, more and more evidence confirms that the incidence and clinical symptoms of IBS show obvious gender differences.Gender difference is a widespread and neglected problem in scientific research, which is particularly obvious and important in the field of medical research. However,at present, the guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of IBS or the consensus of experts do not pay enough attention to gender differences, and the previous research contents in this area are relatively limited and scattered, and there is a lack of systematic literature for reference. This paper will discuss the research status of gender differences in patients with IBS from the perspectives of sex hormones, immunity, intestinal flora and brain function, aiming at providing new ideas for explaining the pathogenesis of IBS and exploring treatment strategies.
