Periodontal disease is a chronic,multifactorial disease.The population incidence rate is close to 90％.It is the main cause of adult tooth loss.Its complications have a negative impact on the nutrition,quality of life and self-esteem of patients.At the same time,most countries and regions currently cannot coordinate the payment of oral outpatient treatment costs through basic medical insurance,and there is a lack of commercial insurance to supplement it.The high incidence rate of periodontal disease,the low rate of seeking medical advice,and the low coverage rate of oral medical insurance have brought a heavy disease economic burden to individuals,families,and society.This paper conducts a literature review on the current research status of the economic burden of periodontal disease and oral medical insurance systems both domestically and internationally.It points out that it is necessary to promote in-depth research on the economic burden of periodontal disease and oral medical insurance in China,providing theoretical basis for specific work.
