Clinical efficacy of Er∶YAG and Nd∶YAG dual wavelength laser-assisted treatment for chronic periodontitis and its effect on cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of Er∶YAG and Nd∶YAG dual-wavelength laser-assisted treatment of periodontitis and its effect on cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid. Methods A total of 78 patients with chronic periodontitis treated in the Stomatological Hospital of Xiamen Medical College from May 2021 to April 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into a conventional group(n=39,received conventional treatment measures)and a laser group(n=39,supplemented with the combined adjuvant treatment of Er:YAG and Nd:YAG dual-wavelength lasers on top of the conventional treatment measures)using a random number table method.Compare the periodontal indicators of two groups before and after treatment for 1 and 3 months, and collect and analyze the cytokine levels in gingival crevicular fluid of the two groups before and after treatment. Results The comparison of periodontal pocket probing depth(PD),clinical attachment loss(CAL),gingival index(GI)and sulcus bleeding index(SBI)between the two groups of patients before treatment, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05),compared with the conventional group, after the first month and the third month after treatment, the laser group had low PD,CAL,GI and SBI,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The comparison of interleukin(IL)-8,IL-1β and tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)levels between the two groups of patients before treatment, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05),Compared with the conventional group, after the third month of treatment, the laser group had low levels of IL-8,IL-1β and TNF-α,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Er∶YAG and Nd∶YAG dual-wavelength lasers show good effects in the treatment of chronic periodontitis, which can improve periodontal indexes and effectively regulate the level of cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid, reduce t he degree of inflammation and promote periodontal tissue repair.
