Clinical characteristics and prognostic analysis of sudden deafness with vertigo
Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with sudden deafness and vertigo. Methods A total of 187 patients with sudden deafness were selected from the Department of Otolaryngology, the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from January 2021 to June 2023. According to whether the patients were accompanied by benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV),they were divided into BPPV group, vertigo group (without BPPV) and simple sudden deafness group. Pure tone audiometry and video electronystagmography were used to compare and analyze the clinical characteristics and prognosis of three groups of patients with sudden deafness. Results The onset time of BPPV group was shorter than that of simple sudden deafness group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The degree of hearing loss grading in the BPPV group was more severe than that in the vertigo group and the simple sudden deafness group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The hearing efficacy of BPPV group and vertigo group was lower than that of simple sudden deafness group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the efficacy of vertigo between the BPPV group and the vertigo group (P<0.05). Conclusion When sudden deafness is accompanied by vertigo symptoms, the hearing loss is serious and the clinical treatment effect is poor. Distinguishing BPPV from vertigo symptoms is beneficial to the treatment and recovery of patients.
