Research progress in the treatment of liver fibrosis with extracts of traditional Chinese and Mongolian medicine
Hepatic fibrosis(HF)is caused by most viral or metabolic liver injuries, and it is one of the pathological features with high incidence of liver injuries. At present, there are many kinds of drugs to treat HF.However, western medicine often only targets at a single gene/protein and induces many adverse reactions. The mechanism of action and effective components of traditional Chinese and Mongolian medicines are mostly unclear. However, the natural compound products extracted from Chinese and Mongolian medicines have the characteristics of diverse structures and wide sources, and have unique advantages and great potential in anti-HF.After identification, the effective anti-HF components extracted from Chinese and Mongolian medicines can generally be divided into flavonoids, phenols, terpenoids and alkaloids. The mechanism of anti-HF includes inhibiting inflammation, inhibiting lipid peroxidation damage, inhibiting the activation and proliferation of hepatic stellate cells, and regulating the synthesis and degradation of extracellular matrix. This paper summarizes the research progress of traditional Chinese and Mongolian medicine extracts in treating HF in recent years,in order to provide a new direction for future research on traditional Chinese and Mongolian medicine extracts in treating HF.
