Teaching practice of scenario simulation method to enhance nursing interns'competence in pediatric critical illness care based on the concept of outcome-based education
Objective To explore the teaching practice method of using outcome-based education(OBE)concept based scenario simulation to enhance care ability of pediatric critical illness among nursing undergraduate interns. Methods A total of 90 undergraduate students major in clinical nursing at Guangxi Medical University was divided into two groups based on their internship time in Pediatrics Department. From January to December 2022,42 patients in the control group used traditional teaching methods, and from January to December 2023,48 patients in the intervention group used scenario simulation methods based on the OBE concept. After the end of the course,a unified assessment will be conducted, and a questionnaire survey will be conducted on the effectiveness of classroom teaching. Results The theoretical and skill assessment scores of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The results of the questionnaire survey showed that the intervention group of interns had a high degree of liking for this teaching mode, believed that they gained a lot,and improved their learning enthusiasm and initiative, clinical thinking ability, practical operation level, theoretical and clinical practice ability, and medical/nursing/patient communication ability.Their psychological qualities were exercised, and their satisfaction with teaching was significantly higher than that of the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion The scenario simulation teaching method based on the OBE concept can improve the critical illness care ability of nursing interns, lay a foundation for pediatric critical care, and achieve good results. It has dual clinical and teaching significance.
