Toxicity, irritation and bacteriostasis of tea saponin
In order to investigate the irritation, acute toxicity and bacteriostasis of tea saponin, different concentrations of tea saponin were smeared on the intact and damaged skin of rabbits back to observe the skin erythema and edema, different concentrations of tea saponin were droped in rabbits eyes to observe the irritation, different concentrations of tea saponin were smeared on the intact skin of rats back to observe the toxicity, and filter paper method was used to observe the bacteriostasis of tea saponin in common pathogens. The results showed that 40 mg/mL of the tea saponin had slight irritation to skin, 16 mg/mL of the tea saponin had slight irritation to the eyes; the tea saponin had no obvious toxicity; the tea saponin had strong inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and yeast, and had certain inhibitory effect on Candida albicans and had no inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa (pa).
