Numerical Simulation of Resistance Performance of Different Multiple Ship Formation Arrangements
Multiple ship formation can reduce energy consumption and improve ship endurance,so it is of great significance to conduct researches on the resistance performance of multiple ship formations.In this paper,numerical simulations are carried out on the multiple ship formations at different longitudinal spacing and different speed.The VOF method is used to capture the free surface.The standard k-e model is selected for the closure of RANS equations.Numerical prediction of resistance for single ship is carried out at different speed.The grid independence and time step independence are verified and the numerical results of the resistance have great agreement with the experimental data.Based on the results of the single ship,the resistance characteristics of three ships in longitudinal formation and triangle formation are calculated.The influence of wave interference between ships on the resistance of formation is revealed by analyzing the flow field characteristics of three ships in formation.The results show that resistance reduction can be achieved by reasonable setting the ship spacings.
