Study on the Hydrodynamic Effect of Ship Interaction with Single Block of Ice
A numerical model coupling FVM-FEM for ship-ice collision was established to investigate the influence of hydrodynamic effect on the interaction between ships and broken ice floes. The interaction process of the ship and a single block of ice from approaching to colliding was simulated. The motion of the ice floe and the ship-ice collision force were extracted. The results indicated that the unsteady flowfield induced a drift when the ice was very close to ship before the collision. The drift velocity along the direction of the ship's movement decreased with smaller ice floe. The relative velocity of the ship and the ice decreased with the drift of the ice floe and the ship-ice collision force reduced, which was affected by the size of the ice floe.
