Investigation of Motion Response and Green Water of Tumblehome Ship in Oblique Waves
Tumblehome ships have good stealth performance, but the adoption of the tumblehome design makes the hull more prone to green water phenomena when sailing in waves. The motion response of the tumblehome ship in oblique waves is significantly different from that in head waves. In this study, three bow oblique wave angles are selected to investigate the motion response of tumblehome ships and green water phenomena. The occurrence of green water is analyzed with the potential flow method, and a set of grid schemes is developed and verified using the Star-CCM+viscous flow software.Green water, pressure in the longitudinal and transverse directions, motion response, and green water in different wave directions are analyzed. The results show that the wavelength-to-ship length ratio of green water in a tumblehome ship increases with the increase of the wave angle.
