Effect of empathetic communication in breast cancer patients during chemotherapy
Objective To evaluate the effect of empathetic communication in breast cancer patients during chemotherapy. Methods A convenient sampling method was used to select 80 female patients with breast cancer who received chemotherapy at the Daytime Chemotherapy Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from May 6,2023 to July 31,2023.Among them,40 patients receiving routine care from May 6,2023 to June 18,2023 were included in the control group, and 40 patients receiving empathetic communication care from June 19,2023 to July 31,2023 were included in the experimental group. After 4 rounds of chemotherapy, the anxiety level and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups of patients before and after intervention. Results The anxiety scores of patients before intervention in the control and experimental groups were respectively(57.55±6.62)and(58.60±6.30)points,with no statistically significant difference(t=-0.81,P=0.421).After four rounds of chemotherapy, the anxiety scores of patients in the control and experimental groups were respectively(49.23±8.50)points and(43.25±7.78)points,with a statistically significant difference(t=3.11,P=0.004).There was no statistically significant difference in the occurrence of constipation between the two groups(P>0.05),but the experimental group showed milder symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea(all P<0.05).Conclusion Sympathetic communication can reduce anxiety of breast cancer patients during chemotherapy, and alleviate nausea, vomiting and diarrhea caused by chemotherapy.
