Influencing factors of safety behaviors of oncology nurses and their correlations with self-awareness
Objective To assess the current status and influencing factors of safety behaviors of oncology nurses and to analyze their correlations with self-awareness.Methods The convenience sampling method was used to collect information from 673 nurses in a Grade A tertiary oncology hospital in Beijing from December 2023 to January 2024.All participants completed a general information questionnaire,a nurse safety behavior scale, and a self-awareness scale through the QuestionStar platform.Univariate analysis of the factors affecting nurses'safety behaviors was performed with t-test or ANOVA.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between nurses'safety behaviors and self-awareness.Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the independent factors that affect nurses'safety behaviors. Results A total of 673 questionnaires were collected,of which 650(96.6%)were valid.Of the 650 nurses,627 were female and 23 were male.Age of the participants ranged from 21 to 54 years, with a mean age of(30.41±8.43)years.The 650 oncology nurses scored(53.32±8.00)for safety behaviors in total, and scored(63.97±9.18)for self-awareness.Univariate analyses showed that older age, higher academic degree, higher title, higher monthly income, being married and having fewer adverse events were significantly associated with higher safety behavior scores(all P<0.05).The safety behavior scores were not associated with gender and weekly working hours(both P>0.05).Correlation analysis showed that oncology nurses'self-awareness was positively correlated with their safety behaviors(r=0.30,P<0.00l).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that adverse events, age, academic degree and self-awareness were independent influencing factors of safety behaviors of oncology nurses(all P<0.05).Conclusion Oncology nurses'self-awareness was positively correlated with their safety behaviors.Adverse events, age, academic degree and self-awareness are independent influencing factors of safety behaviors of oncology nurses.
