Analysis of the quality of life and influencing factors in elderly patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy
Objective To investigate the current quality of life of elderly patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy and analyze the influencing factors, with the aim of improving their quality of life. Methods A survey was conducted on 387 elderly lung cancer patients receiving chemotherapy at the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from February to April 2023.The survey utilized a general information questionnaire, the Quality of Life Scale for Lung Cancer Patients, the Self-Perceived Burden Scale, the Fear of Disease Progression Scale, and the Family Care Index. The current quality of life and its influencing factors were analyzed. Results The total score for the quality of life of elderly lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy was(96.31±15.29).The treatment regimen and age were identified as the main influencing factors(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that the total quality of life score was negatively correlated with self-perception and fear of disease progression(r values of-0.268 and-0.497,respectively,both P<0.01),and positively correlated with family function(r=0.121,P<0.05)and discharge readiness(r=0.464,P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that discharge readiness and fear of disease progression were independent risk factors affecting the quality of life of elderly lung cancer patients(P<0.001).Conclusions Healthcare professionals should prioritize the quality of life of elderly lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy by implementing targeted and personalized nursing interventions.Improving discharge readiness and providing psychological support are essential to enhance the quality of life for these patients.
