Research advancements in the traditional Chinese medicine treatment of taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy
Taxanes are a common class of chemotherapy drugs widely used in the treatment of various malignancies. While they can improve survival rates in cancer patients, taxanes also cause certain adverse effects during treatment.Taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy(TIPN)is a frequent adverse events, often presenting as sensory abnormalities, numbness, and pain, with some cases involving motor neuron impairment. These symptoms can lead to the discontinuation of treatment, negatively affecting outcomes and severely impacting the patient's quality of life, which has drawn increasing clinical attention.Currently, duloxetine is the only recommended drug for TIPN in treatment guidelines, while other commonly used drugs, such as glutathione and oxcarbazepine, and non-drug therapies, lack sufficient evidence.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has shown significant advantages in preventing and treating TIPN,but research is limited and lacks comprehensive review. This article provides an overview of TCM approaches, including herbal formulas, injections, and acupuncture, analyzing them from the perspectives of modern medicine, pharmacology, and molecular biology,to support the use of TCM in enhancing the prevention and treatment of TIPN.
