A Preliminary Study of the Effects of LED Supplemental Lighting on Greenhouse Crops in Winter and Spring Season
Lanzhou has excellent light conditions and a large temperature difference between day and night, which is very suitable for the growth of some cash crops, but the winter and spring are often accompanied by sand, dust, rain and snow and other bad weather, which leads to a decline in the quality of light and poor yields. In this study,we took cut flower roses as an example, and investigated the effect of LED supplemental light on the yield and harvesting cycle of cut flower roses in a glass greenhouse in Lanzhou area in winter and spring by setting LED supplemental light, with no supplemental light as a control. The results showed that the yields of the two varieties of cut roses were increased to different degrees after supplemental lighting, with 'Peach Snow Mountain'having the highest yield increase of 54%,and the harvesting cycle was shortened by 4 days. The research results provide suggestions for improving the yield of winter and spring cut roses in greenhouses in Lanzhou, and also provide a reference for the application of supplemental light to greenhouses in other regions of Northwest China in winter and spring crops.
