The analysis of HIV/AIDS epidemic in Lanzhou city,1993-2009
Objective To analyze the characteristics and trend of HIV/AIDS epidemic in Lanzhou city from 1993 to 2009,and to provide scientific basis for HIV/AIDS prevention and control.Methods Using statistical methods,the case reporting and sentinel surveillance data were analyzed.Results From 1993 to the end of 2009,364 HIV/AIDS cases were reported,among whom,62 were AIDS cases and 24 died.A rapid increasing trend was found and the yearly increasing rate of reported cases was 54.49%.The HIV/AIDS epidemic in Lanzhou city was characterized by a wide disparity between different regions and displayed a concentrated distribution.Intravenous drug use was the main transmission route in the past,and now sexual transmission,especially the homosexual transmission became the main transmission route.Conclusion A rapid spread of HIV/AIDS is observed in Lanzhou city.Surveillance on the HIV/AIDS spread in high-risk populations such as commercial female sex workers(FSW)and men who have sex with men(MSM)should be strengthened.Health education and intervention should be adopted among the high-risk population.
