Epidemiological characteristics of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in Huating county
Objective To investigate the prevalence of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS),and to explore the density of rodents and the rate of virus-carrying rodents in Huating county. Methods The trap-at-night method was used in this study.Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the obtained data. Results 1.47% of the total rodents carried virus,in which,1.20% of the Rattus norvegicus(indoor),7.14% of the Rattus confucianus(outdoor)and 5.71% of Apodemus agrarius(outdoor)were virus-carrying rodents.Rattus norvegicus and Mus musculus were the predominant species in the resident areas, according for 65.93% and 31.85% of the indoor rodents, respectively. The average indoor rodent density was 3.93%.Apodemus agrarius,Cricetulus migratorius,Cricetulus triton and Rattus norvegicus were the predominant species in the wild, according for 24.14%,23.79%,17.24%,and 16.90% of the outdoor rodents, respectively. The average outdoor rodent density was 6.48%.The first report on prevalence of HFRS was in 1990 in Huating county.A high-level incidence rate was observed in 1991(35.18/100 000) and 1994(98.86/100 000).The incidence rate dropped to 5.32/100 000 in 1995 and since then a sustained low level incidence was observed. Conclusion The epidemiological factors of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome still exist in Huating county, indicating that surveillance and control of HFRS should be strengthened.
