Ultrasound detection of carotid in hypertensive patients
Objective To explore the severity of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with different grades of hypertension. Methods Three hundred and eighty patients and 150 healthy persons were selected and divided into hypertension group and control group, respectively. The carotid-artery intima-media thickness(CAIMT),carotid artery diameter(CADIA),and the incidence rate of atherosclerosis plaques in the subjects were detected with color Doppler ultrasound. The data were analyzed with chi-square test and t test.P0.05 was considered as significant. Results The CAIMT and CADIA significantly increased in hypertension group than those in control group. It was also found that the CAIMT and CADIA increased with the increasing grade of hypertension(P0.05).More patients developed atherosclerosis plaques in hypertension group than those in control group(P0.05).Conclusion The carotid atherosclerosis is characterized by the increase of CAIMT and CADIA and the formation of plaque.Hypertension contributes to the development of carotid atherosclerosis.
