Differentiation and Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Based on Collateral Disease Theory
Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is a chronic progressive disease common in elderly males,the main clinical manifestations are lower urinary tract symptoms,such as frequent urination,urgency,dysuria,and so on.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)offers unique advantages in treating BPH,moreover,the development of collateral disease theory provides a novel perspective for the diagnosis and management of this condition.TCM posits that the pathogenesis of BPH originates from a deficiency of vital Qi,accompanied by the presence of phlegm turbidity and blood stasis as pathological manifestations,with the meridian of essence chamber obstruction serving as crucial pathological mechanisms.This article is based on the physiological and pathological characteristics of the prostate,the distinctive features of BPH,and their correlation with collateral disease theory,the etiology,pathogenesis,and treatment of this disease are discussed in depth based on collateral disease theory.
