Exploration of the Thought on Diagnosis and Treatment of Epidemic Throat in Yi Hou Qian Lun
Yi Hou Qian Lun is a specialized book written by Xia Yun,a renowned laryngologist in the late Qing dynasty. This article systematically reviews Xia Yun's thought on diagnosis and treatment of epidemic throat,as well as its characteristics in identifying the etiology,pathogenesis,and symptoms of the disease. Xia Yun proposed that the epidemic can be divided into regular and miscellaneous diseases. The epidemic throat is caused by miscellaneous Qi,and the epidemic throat disease is caused by both external and internal heat. The pathogenesis and symptoms of the epidemic throat disease were influenced by weather changes,and the severity and prognosis of the epidemic throat disease can be distinguished by throat,measles,tongue,and pulse. Xia Yun also innovatively proposed that the treatment of the epidemic throat should be divided into three stages,with different treatments for infants and pregnant women. In response to the syndrome of stuffy throat and closed throat,he proposed the method of first using powder to take sneeze and then taking Chinese medicine soup. In response to the occurrence of throat swelling and blockage in the epidemic throat,he proposed the method of urgently using needling,scraping,and vomiting to save. This article analyzes Xia Yun's medical thoughts and characteristics of diagnosing and treating epidemic throat from three aspects:etiology,symptoms,and treatment methods. It has important guiding significance for today's diagnosis and treatment of epidemic throat.
