Study on outward translation of TCM classics situated in international communication is in line with the national strategy of extending the reach of Chinese civilization and enhancing overall international communication efficacy. This paper takes the English translation of Inner Canon of Huangdi as an example,to discuss the act of "fidelity and creativity" in the translation of TCM classics,by analyzing three translations of Maoshing Ni,Paul Unschuld and Zhaoguo Li. The study shows that we must carefully weigh the extent of "fidelity" and "creativity";make proper adjustment on the basis of target readers to reach a dynamic balance between the two. Specifically,the translator is advised to prioritize "creativity" for general readers while prioritize "fidelity" for elite readers,toward the goal of promoting targeted communication and extending the reach of TCM culture.
