The Persistence and Transformation of Contemporary Folk Ceramic Handicraft Heritage Education Under the Perspective of"Secrecy"System
The survival of the secrecy system in contemporary Chinese folk ceramic handicraft heri-tage education is worthy of attention. An ethnographic survey of the folk master studios in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China, reveals a striking paradox:although the long-standing system of"secrecy"in terms of identity has now been broken or even disappeared, this has created more learning opportunities for outsiders. However,in terms of teaching, masters still adhere to deliberate measures of verbal"secrecy".In this case, the screening system and the non-verbal teaching form of"enlightenment"can not only maintain the traditional role but also make the transmission of knowledge of technical heritage more lasting and stick-ier.In the context of the continuous pursuit of fast-paced and efficient industrialization, the transformation of some traditional values helps to maintain heritage protection and educational inheritance.
