As the number of patients with cerebrovascular disease and brain trauma increases,the incidence of coma has been on the rise in recent years,and the severe disorder of consciousness badly affects the prognosis of patients,decreases the quality of life,and places additional burden on their families.Hence,how to promptly waking clinical patients up from comas awaits urgently to be solved.This article presents discussion on the etiology,pathogenesis and treatment principles of coma and an overview of the common application and mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicines and relevant appropriate techniques in the treatment of coma in recent years,so as to provide theoretical guidance for the future awakening by traditional Chinese medicine.
