Survey on the Development of Pediatric Clinical Pharmacists in 57 Medical Institutions
Objective:To understand the current development situation of pediatric clinical pharmacists in China so as to provide reference for the management,training and development of pediatric clinical pharmacists.Methods:The pediatric clinical pharmacists from the clinical pharmacists group of Futang Research Center of Pediatric Development were interviewed using a questionnaire to understand their educational background,major,employment environment,job duties and academic expectation.Results:A total of 225 clinical pediatric pharmacists from 57 medical institutions across 27 regions participated in the survey.The pediatric clinical pharmacists interviewed mostly came from tertiary medical institutions(99.55%),were mainly between 30 and 39 years old(73.33%)and chief pharmacists(64.44%)in terms of the title,and primarily majored in pharmacy(34.67%),clinical pharmacy(30.22%)and pharmacology(16%).Job duties included pharmaceutical ward rounds,prescription comments and analysis,and collection of adverse reactions.Pharmaceutical ward rounds were mainly performed together with physicians and took less than 10 hours per week in 48.44%of pharmacists.Fifty-six percent of pharmacists monitored 1~10 children per month,53.78%carried out 1~5 general pharmacy consultations per month,41.33%participated in 1~5 multi-disciplinary consultations per month,and 52.44%responded to 1~10 pharmacy consultations per month.Conclusion:The pediatric clinical pharmacist team composition is reasonable and the job duties have covered all aspects required for clinical pharmacists,while the level of integration with clinic needs continuous strengthening.
