Clinical Efficacy and Safety of Metronidazole Combined with Minocycline Hydrochloride in the Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis
Objective:To investigate the effect and safety of metronidazole combined with minocycline hydrochloride in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Methods:Seventy patients with chronic periodontitis admitted to a certain hospital from February 2020 to October 2023 were selected as the research subjects. They were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group using a random number table method, with 35 cases in each group. The control group was treated with minocycline hydrochloride alone, and the observation group was treated with metronidazole combined with minocycline hydrochloride. The bleeding index, periodontal depth, inflammatory factors[tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and interleukin-6(IL-6)],and the clinical efficacy and incidence of adverse reactions of the two groups were also compared. Results:After treatment, the bleeding index, periodontal depth and the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in serum were decreased and lower in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of the observation group(82.86%)was higher than that of the control group(57.14%,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups of patients(P>0.05).Conclusion:The metronidazole combined with minocycline hydrochloride is more effective in treating chronic periodontitis than using minocycline hydrochloride alone. It has a significant improvement effect on patients'periodontal indicators and inflammatory reactions, and does not increase the risk of adverse reactions. It is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
