Literature Review of Disulfiram-Like Reactions Induced by Traditional Chinese Patent Medicines
Objective:Literatures of disulfiram-like reactions to traditional Chinese patent medicines were reviewed and analyzed,to improve the safety awareness against disulfiram-like reactions to traditional Chinese patent medicines containing alcohol. Methods:A search was performed with"disulfiram-like reaction(s)"as the key word in CNKI and Wanfang database to obtain literatures referencing"traditional Chinese patent medicines","antibiotics"and"disulfiram-like reaction(s)".The involved drugs and their dosage and alcohol content for the disulfiram-like reactions were compiled.Results:Disulfiram-like reactions occurred with traditional Chinese patent medicines including topical preparations, oral preparations and injections.Disulfiram-like reactions were reported at varying dosage and alcohol content of 0.014 to 10ml.Conclusion:Alcohol-containing traditional Chinese patent medicines should be used with caution and should not be used concomitantly with cephalosporins with or without methyltetrazole(MTT)group, nitroimidazoles, nitrofurans, sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drugs, chloramphenicol, ketoconazole, isoniazid, etc.
